“Without carefully planned cable management, there can be no functioning shore power systems,” summarises Pascal Berg, Industry Manager Cranes, Long Travel and OPS at TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP. “Our systems ensure that the power arrives exactly where it is needed – even with changing berth locations and different ship types.”

This involves substantial challenges. Firstly, the systems have to transfer enormous amounts of power. Secondly, they are subject to tough conditions: salt water, wind, UV radiation. The solution? Cable carriers with roller guiding, installed underground in the quay or in special guide channels on the quay edge for weather protection. The materials used are particularly UV stable and salt water resistant. They can withstand the weather, protect the cables and ensure a long service life even under high strain.

Focus on flexibility
With the TKSPS (TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP Shore Power System) solutions for cruise ships and container ships, TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP offers standardised, tried and test cable carrier systems for cable management in different port scenarios. Whether greenfield or brownfield, i.e. new planning or retrofit – both variants are possible. “We offer port operators the flexibility required to ensure the future viability of existing infrastructures or to equip new sites for future requirements from the outset,” explains Pascal Berg.

An additional advantage: The systems can be adapted within a modular system that also takes into account international requirements. Depending on the application, suitable corrosion protection measures up to high protection ratings (e.g. C5-M) are used for individual components. Relevant regulations such as IEC 80005‑1 are adhered to where required. “We document each system in line with the EU Machinery Directive and advise our customers early on to avoid changes further down the line,” Pascal Berg continues.

Expert knowledge from a single source
But technology alone is not enough. Planning, implementation and operation have to integrate seamlessly. TSUBAKI KABELSCHLEPP therefore offer comprehensive engineering services, from the initial idea to commissioning. “Our development and service teams support projects beyond commissioning and over the entire service life,” explains Pascal Berg. “That also includes training, maintenance, retrofitting and modernisation. Everything from a single source with our own ProService program.”

A special focus is on condition monitoring, which is used to log push and pull forces, for example, in order to identify potential malfunctions early on. This is supplemented by ready-to-install solutions such as floating drivers with integrated sensors. “The electrification of ports is no longer a vision for the future, but actual reality,” summarises Pascal Berg. “And with each project, we are getting a little closer to this objective.”
